October 1, 2011 marks the 5-year anniversary of the listing date of my cache,
Acrophobia.
Last year I organized no trips to the cache. I thought there was a lack of interest but in fact I had made a mistake in filtering my emails and so all cachers emailing me about organizing a trip went unanswered Some of those cachers have since taken it upon themselves to learn ropework and have recently tagged a find!
Gauging interest here and at GeoRoc, it looks like there are a lot of people who would like to make a trip, pending dates. After a little more discussion, I have decided that Sat October 1, 2011 has the benefit of being a Saturday, as well as the 5-year anniversary of the cache listing, and is still far enough in the future to allow planning.
Taz has however notified me that this is the day of a wedding between some Rochester cachers and there will be a portion of the Rochester contingent unavailable for that day. Because of this I have decided that I will ALSO host a group on Oct 2nd.
Anyone who wants to take a try at this cache is welcome to come on either day. Or if you just want to watch, or if you are interested but don't think you have the guts. A lot of cachers have come in the past prepared to just watch, not thinking they could do it, and have wound up actually going for it and scoring the find!
I am expecting that Saturday will be mostly Syracuse-area Cachers and Sunday will be mostly Rochester-area cachers, although overlap is expected and encouraged.
I would like to get started by 9am both days. Based on past experience, the total time involved is about one hour for setup followed by 15-25 minutes per cacher and an hour for take-down. I think we ran 17 cachers in 6 hours in 2009. My reason for saying this is to encourage people to come even if they can't get there until the afternoon. Depending on the number present, you aren't going to miss anything. That said, please do come early, you won't want to miss your friends taking the plunge.
So, who's in?
