The event has been submitted and will hopefully be published soon. As mentioned previously, I have tried to get the jump on this because it's a weekday evening.

http://coord.info/GC1WQMW

The event will be Wednesday May 26, 2010, 8:00 pm with the following schedule:

Since this event will be on a weekday, please plan accordingly! Figure out your drive time! Arrange to take the day off or take a half day! The sooner you start planning, the easier it will be.

(This original post was edited to reflect changes made to the event.)

We are locked in for Wednesday, May 26. How does this schedule sound?

Tentative Schedule:
Quote
6:30 - 7:00: Begin gathering at The Spot
7:00 - 8:00: General festivities and activities at The Spot
8:00 - 8:45: Return to parking lot and drive to the secondary meeting place (Bob & Ruth's?).
8:45 - ?.??: Hang out, mingle, have some ice cream and/or dinner.
Do the schedule and times sound good? Are they too late in the day? Note: Sunset is scheduled for 8:36 pm.

I tried to do it late enough so that some working people could conceivably make it after work or only work a half day and still make it.

The consensus seems to be that these hours are too late. I was trying to find a balance where people could leave from work and still make it, but that pushes everything pretty late into the night, especially with a long drive back. If 7:00 - 8:00 is too late, what time do you think would be better?

I think you should try to have it between 4-6pm.   Let the workerbees get out of work early.

I have already done the Spot, but I will be more than happy to revisit the area.  It kinda give you the shivers when you find it.   I half way expected beams of lights protruding from it when it was opened.  The area is beautiful.  I did it in the winter with all the ice and snow it was really something.   In May with all the foliage out, it will probably be just as beautiful.   Guaranteed not be a dissapointment!.

Yes it is quite the "SPOT" and I would have to say the best way to get to the cache is to start from the top.The view was awesome this past fall with most of the leaves gone. It's easy to see why the Senecas thought of this area to be the birth place of their people. Coming up from the bottom one could find themselves on the wrong side of the ravine very easy. In fact there are several that come together to form Clarks Gulley. The path from the top is fairly easy to locate and a bit safer but even still it can be tricky. Always be on the lookout for exposed roots that couild trip you up. One stumble and you could roll for quite aways before stopping. Not sure yet if we will able to join the event but there are afew caches along the way. Coterm's "Stanleyville" is one, along with a few bells (Gorham and Rushville)

The cache is GC39. The event is not yet published because I need to get in touch with the ice cream shop/restaurant that I want to meet outside of.

Is it published now.
http://coord.info/GC1WQMW

The time was pushed back to 8:00 and the event location was moved to the restaurant:
Bob & Ruth's Vineyard Restaurant
204 North Main Street (aka Rte 21)
Naples, NY
585-374-5122

The reason for the change was to avoid any interpretation of this being a "cache hunt" event. I still intend on being at The Spot at 7:00 before heading to the event, so feel free to join me!

Anyone who is planning on going: I do intend on arriving in that area early in the day and I am open to meeting up with people to cache the day away!

ATTENTION: Change of plans! I called Bob & Ruth's a long while ago and told them we would be showing up on 5/26 at 8:00 pm. She told me to call back the day before to let them know. I called back today and she told me that they *CLOSE* at 8:00 [:O] So we will STILL be there at 8:00 (the picnic tables next to the restaurant are actually a town park) BUT if you want to purchase ice cream you'll need to be there beforehand and if you want food I would suggest getting there 7:30 or earlier.

As a result, arriving at The Spot at 7 will be cutting it too close. I will probably arrive at 6:15ish so I can get down to The Spot, judge how long of a hike back out it will be, and then arrive at Bob and Ruth's in time for a bit of food.

So if you were planning on arriving at/after 8:00, that is fine -- we will be there at the park -- however you won't be able to buy any ice cream or food from Bob & Ruth's at that time.

Any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.

Yes, it was great Scott - you did a great job promoting it and finding a good spot for the event. It was so neat with the couple who have been married for 50 years (I strongly applaud that) and there first dinner together was at that place - neat!

Got to meet Taz finally - I liked that. Seeing Donna and you again was nice. Like meeting Lisa too. Do not know when I will ever be yonder that way again. I really enjoyed the ride.

Finally, got to meet Frank both at ASPGB and at the Ice Cream place for the X Marks the Spot event.  Afterall, I do chat with him and many others on the Buffalo forum.   One of these days I'll get around to logging my May 29th caches along with the ones I did on Sunday.  Finally, got ASP done.

Yes, it was funny to finally meet Frank, only to see him again 4 days later. Everything's coming up Broughton!
