MEGA: ASP GeoBash IV
« on: April 08, 2009, 01:36:02 »
This isn't an event in central NY, but since it is a mega event, many CNY cachers will be heading out!

Allegany State Park (east of Jamestown, about 4 hours from Syracuse)
The event runs three days:
  • Friday, May 15, 2009 starting at 1 pm
  • Saturday, May 16, 2009 starting at 8 am
  • Sunday, May 17, 2009 ending at 10 am

This year will be #4 and it's only a 4 hour drive from Utica/Rome area.   I would think that those from Syracuse would be only a 3 hour drive unless you take 81 & 88/17 over to the west, then it's a longer drive.

I just based it on Google Maps from "Syracuse, NY" to the event coords. Getting from the park entrance to the event site would probably add on a few extra minutes, and Google Maps usually estimates a bit on the long side.

That said, Google Maps never estimates "caching along the way", so 5+ hours may be more accurate  ;D

Of course, if you are already passing through grids 41-46, why no go out of your way to hit 39-40, and make it a 6 hour trip!

Anyone here wishing to go but have not made reservations yet?   I have room for 1 more in the cabin on the Wellar Trail.

Can even carpool if you like (best way to go).   I'll be passing through Syracuse around 8AM

Doree and I have cancelled our reservations at Alleghany and have cancelled our plans of attending the event.  The weather is calling for rain on both Saturday & Sunday and Odin's illness has progressed....and she does not feel comfortable bringing him to the event. Those of you hoping to receive your patches at the event, i apologize and hope we can arrange something else in the future.

well Donna, im only going by what i see

Salamanca Weather

Saturday: Scattered thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 40s.

Sunday: Showers. High 61°F Low 41°F Precip 30 %

and we had plans of tenting it this year.  As you know, the weatehr changes daily...so, it was worse when i looked at the forecast the other day and made our minds about cancelling.....as it is, we waited to long to make the cancellation...and now we only got 18.00 back.

Anyway, Doree wasn't to keen on going with Odin being sick......and there will not be any Odin being better soon.....he doesn't have the flu, or the swine flu as you posted earlier in the other forum/facebook.....he has terminal cancer!
