Title: Night Caches Post by: LCSM on October 01, 2009, 17:53:06 Is anyone up for a little night caching? I think it's more fun in a group. The two caches I have in mind, for different nights, are Mirkwood on the FLT trail east of Cortland and Night Owls in the Bear Adventure Area north of Syracuse.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on October 02, 2009, 08:54:11 Are you planning those for the same night :o
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Tiny and Pumpkin on October 04, 2009, 23:37:19 "Night Owl", just north of Phoenix on Rt 57 is a GREAT NIGHT CACHE! Highly recommend it :) ! (bring lots of flashlights! :o) However I'm not familiar with "Mirkwood". I did a search on it, and only came up with a cache west of Buffalo by that name. What is it's waypoint? I can't locate it.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on October 05, 2009, 09:32:31 Night Owl is good, but as I have warned Lisa about, the firetacks take you down the trail, but the firetacks leading you off of the trail and toward the cache were not visible when I was there this summer. I just wandered off the trail a while until I spotted the cache.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: bullseye1 on October 05, 2009, 21:18:53 Mirkwood is south of Cortland at Hoxie Gorge. The Waypoint is GC15YEZ.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: bullseye1 on October 05, 2009, 21:23:20 If i remember from the Subway cache, the Pumpkin King has a zillion, trillion candle light power flashlight. ;D ;D
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: jeepcacher82 on October 07, 2009, 15:13:15 I'd potentially be interested in a night cache. Sounds like fun!
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: WeputtSC on October 07, 2009, 16:53:11 Found Night Owl about two weeks ago, our first night cache. Brought a bright light and had no problems. There are 8 caches in the area and I had time to find 5 that day. Really like those areas where you can find several and only have to park once. Great Bear Springs is a fun place to explore! ;D
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on October 07, 2009, 22:39:36 If I have my way, Great Bear will have several more next year that will lead you out to the western portions of the area. I just need to get permission and containers together.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Tiny and Pumpkin on October 08, 2009, 06:21:12 The Zillion Trillion candlewatt flashlight is fully charged (trees burst into flame when I shine it on them!) and waiting for me to convince TinyMoon that we REALLY REALLY NEED to go find MorTishA night cache down in Otisco! Unfortunately she no longer likes night caching :-[.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: LCSM on October 08, 2009, 08:55:59 Mor-tish-a Night cache is an excellent night cache. It was the first one I ever went to, and it's set up really well-with plenty of fire tacks in both directions so finding your way out is not a problem. Of course, I went with a bunch of pros, but going in a group really makes it fun. I hope Tiny Moon will change her mind.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: jeepcacher82 on October 08, 2009, 14:40:49 N00b question: what's a fire tack?
I'm assuming it's some sort of reflective marker on the trail. Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on October 08, 2009, 16:20:02 Yes, it's a reflective marker.
http://www.firetacks.com/webcart.php?cat_id=1& You'll see lots (hopefully) when you do your first night cache. Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Chrobak_and_Chrust on October 14, 2009, 09:44:28 Are you still planning the Night Owl? It would be our first night cache. Of course all depends on timing/weather/
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: LCSM on October 15, 2009, 16:06:17 Yes, I'm still planning it, but so far you are only the second interested party and my calendar is suddenly getting rather complicated. Does 11/6 work for anyone?
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: jeepcacher82 on October 15, 2009, 19:01:46 Night Owl on 11/6 would work for me. It would be my first night cache as well.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on October 16, 2009, 08:49:52 My cousin is finally getting into geocaching and lives 2 miles south of Great Bear. If I can get him to come along, I'll try to show up with the boys as well. Maybe a group can find the firetacks I missed when I had to wander around for a while :)
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on October 21, 2009, 08:43:53 My cousin ended up going on his own without me >:(
Maybe we'll still come -- I'll have to check with him to see. Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Chrobak_and_Chrust on October 23, 2009, 20:02:08 We keep the Nov. 6th marked in our calendar. Keep us informed pls.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: LCSM on October 25, 2009, 21:53:56 I still hope to go to Night Owl on 11/6, but I hope to hear from some people first. I'm only going if I can get a group together-at least 3 people! We can work the timing once we set the date.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on October 26, 2009, 09:58:45 Hmm, doesn't LCsm and C&C make four people?
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: jeepcacher82 on October 27, 2009, 14:01:51 I am still interested in going.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: LCSM on November 01, 2009, 22:13:12 I plan to go to Night Owl on 11/6. It was pitch black at 6:00 tonight, so maybe we can meet at the park entrance at 5:30. Is that too early for everyone? I'm flexible.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: jeepcacher82 on November 02, 2009, 09:25:28 530 would work for me. By park entrance... Where the gated fence is, right?
If I can get 2 more caches in before Friday, this will be #50! Just got a new Maglite LED 2D, so I should have plenty of candlepower to get to this cache. Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Chrobak_and_Chrust on November 04, 2009, 23:05:02 Sorry, we can not join you. Stan has the eye exam (probably an injection in the eye), he would be half blind...
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: jeepcacher82 on November 04, 2009, 23:58:17 What about rescheduling to better weather, better attendance?
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on November 05, 2009, 09:33:19 That might work out for LCSM too, considering she blew out her knee.
Lisa, do you want to organize another date for this night cache? Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: LCSM on November 16, 2009, 09:39:19 I'm still on the disabled list but will post when my restrictions are lifted. Right now, I'm not allowed on uneven terrain, especially in the dark when it would be easy to trip on an unseen root and twist my knee further.
Title: Re: Night Caches Post by: Novac on November 16, 2009, 14:56:46 Go go gadget knees!
Here you go, Lisa: http://www.handicaching.com/ |
