I selected geocachingcny.com based on a few opinions and then I just gave the site the name "Geocaching in Central New York" based on the site name. But what do we want to call this site and/or group of cachers? I brainstormed a (very) short list. If you have another name you prefer, please post here and let me know.
  • Geocaching in Central New York (current name)
  • Geocachers of Central New York
  • Syracachers
  • Syracaching
  • Geocuse
  • Central New York Geocachers
  • Central New York Geocaching
After we have a selection of names, I'll post a poll for everyone to pick their favorite.

Originally I wanted to shy away from using a Syracuse-related name, but that seems to be the trend in Rochester & Buffalo's groups. I had also thought the group might cover a larger radius originally but later discovered that there were existent groups in those areas that I just wasn't able to initially find with a few Google searches. So, I added in a few to the list above.

The current name works for me. Syracuse is the central point of the region, but CNY has many cities, towns, and counties.

OK, so how do you feel about Geocaching vs. Geocachers in the title? Smiley I think switching to "Geocachers" might make it a bit more personal.

I asked about the Syracuse primarily because the groups west of us specifically reference Rochester and Buffalo in their names. On the other hand, the group to the east (Albany) references an entire region.

Re: Albany group - is because it represent the entire Albany area (Latham, Troy, Schnedenty, Amsertdam, Saratoga Springs, Glen Falls, etc.)   NYCRG (New York Capital Region Geocachers) the Capital Region of New York state is Albany (For those who didn't know where the NY State Capitol was located).

Rochester is GeoRoc (Geocachers of Rochester)
Buffalo is Gitbuff (Geocaching in the Buffalo area)

Here are a few I came up with:
NYS'cusRG
NYSRG
NYcuseRG
NYSyracuseRG
GeoSyr
GITCuse

Geocachers sounds exclusive - geocaching sounds inviting.
