The spam here lately is getting out of hand, isn't it? I realize it's being deleted but in the meantime it renders site features like RSS feed and reply notifications worthless. Apparently the spammers have found some way around the CAPTCHA. Can new accounts be made to pass moderator review before they can become active?

Yes and no. I just went ahead and disabled any new accounts for now. I will not bother with moderator review.

I'm still looking for alternatives.

Don't know if you saw it but on the FB page: "Larry Slosberg Just found out about this, and was wondering when registration will be opened again, or how I can go about registering?"
