I can't believe that geocaching.com is going to automatically archive any cache that has not been found in over 12 months -- does that make any sense to anyone?

Not at all. . . there are some caches in out of the way places that I have on my list-for instance a Tiny Moon and Pumpkin King Quack Attack (canoe cache) that I really hope to get to this year.  Perhaps they could put in an exception for caches that when the CO puts in a maintenance check so that if they say, "I checked, it's fine" they can avoid the issue.  Of course, CO's could just do it automatically without actually checking, which isn't right either.
