I know we are all pissed off at this guy and would like to just kick the crap out of him, but I don't think we should be calling him or going to his house or any such thing like that. I still believe he is messed up in the head - how else can one explain why he did it. Hopefully now that he knows that we know who he is and he is facing criminal charges, this will be the end of it. I don't think mob mentality is the way to go.

There is plenty of information on Repak online, but it is certainly a bad idea to use that information to harass someone. There also may be legal issues -- you don't want to be paying bail for yourself, too! Just something to think about.  Messed up in the head? Possibly...but I did discover that he is involved with a Leave No Trace program for the boy scouts, so he may have been doing it with that sort of goal in mind. |

Boyscouts has a Geocaching Badge. They learn how to geocache. They find, sign, put back. This guy Paul is NOT a boyscout and doesn't understand the rules of the game!

New York Admin is aware of the situation and is looking for a way to find out what this guys geocaching name is. Without his name there is no real way of preventing him from getting cache information. Even if we had his name, what is to prevent him from signing up under another name?

Geolobo was telling Johfra and myself about a group of "anti- geocachers" - they remove geocaches because they think they should not be left out in nature like they are. Like it is some sort of pollution or destruction of nature. This goes along with the Leave No Trace idea. Boy scouts are supposed to leave only footprints in nature and nothing else. I could see that holding true for this guy for some of the caches, but how is a magnetic key holder on a guard rail any more intrusive than the guard rail itself. Or a film canister under a light skirt?  ?? A coffee can hidden in the woods - maybe. |

There are other ways of making his point known, if that were his point. . . like placing notes on the logs complaining about geo trash. . .Boy Scouts have embraced geocaching, and Leave No Trace people that I know in the area have as well. The idea of containers in the woods is to get people outside and moving, and most LNT people are happy to see people outside. I had the LNT traveling team meet with 215 Girl Scouts at an overnight camping program last year. . . and I really don't think that is his issue, especially, as you point out, film containers under a light skirt. I really hope that this sends the guy the right message, that he leaves us to our fun, and that the Utica/Rome area cachers who have given up in disgust will return to the sport. Those who have stuck with it have been amazing, replacing containers weekly for years now. . .your stats for cache placing should show in the thousands!

At least 4 different friends of mine have sent me a link to the article-none of whom are over 250 caches, and none of them live in Rome or Boonville. . . this article was definitely seen.

LOL, why does everyone think I'm trying to point out a Boy Scouts conspiracy? I didn't say BSA was involved or that this guy was affiliated with BSA. All I said was that he has some sort of a Leave No Trace program/class/lecture that he does and that the only info I found on it was that he taught it to boy scouts.
