So... is it fair to say that the bottom line is that other than the inconvenience of a couple days in court and a lawyer bill, he's getting off without punishment?

... after which, this smirking little SOB will get back in the game and go right back to what he was doing before.  He was inconvenienced, and now feels he was wronged by us, so he'll exact some justice of his own.  Count on it.  Psycho weasels like this don't take slaps on the wrist nicely.

That's why I said "6 months", however in a case like this, I wouldn't say for sure that he would start up again. After all, if mass caches start to go missing again, who would be the prime suspect?

Novac, I have to agree.  Looking at what the judge said, my interpretation is that he is getting off with a very strong warning.  I assume that if he does it again in the future outside of the 6 months it will be treated as a new offense but they will go further.
