Learning Sessions?
« on: February 04, 2012, 13:43:54 »
As a collective group of CNY Geocachers, I think we have a large body of knowledge related to geocaching (among other things).  There's a lot of things that I struggle with when it comes to geocaching and think that I could learn from my fellow cachers. So, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to provide some learning sessions on various topics related to geocaching. Some of things that I've thought about:

- Geocaching tools (GSAK, Mac Caching, Pocket Queries, etc)
- Solving Puzzles (I don't even know how to get started of some of these puzzles  ???)
- Making and hiding caching containers
- Caching safety (Identifying PI, trail safety, first aid kits, etc)
- Other topics?

I know everyone is super busy with their life, but if anyone would be willing to donate an hour or so to holding a session I would be willing to coordinate (reserving a room at a local library, setting up some powerpoint slides, helping develop the session, etc).

These are just some ideas that I've had. If there isn't any other interest, no big deal. Thanks for listening!  ;D

If you're looking to create an event, I would suggest contacting Allan at the Liverpool Public Library. When I reserved the room for my event in January I found out that LPL is in the process of creating something for geocaching (including caches in OLP) and maybe you could team up.

I hosted two "Geek" nights at a library.  Brought in lap tops, GPS'rs and collectible coins and such.  Cachers were asked to bring their interesting devices to show off.  One cacher is exceptional on the use of GSAK and captured everyones  attention on NUVI and Garmin loading up to 20,000 waypoints/caches.  Worked out well.  One we did just to see how it would go, the other as an event.
It is what it is!

Yeah, if you can get in touch with Kai Team and make sure they can attend, I'll bet we would have someone slightly familiar with GSAK. :D

We are having a meet and greet in Baldwinsville on May 17th.

I would love to discuss these items at the meeting.  Hope to see you there!

I might be a last minute attendee as that day is an important day in history. But if I make it, I look forward to the conversations!
