Looking for advice on Goecache kit
« on: June 12, 2010, 11:21:53 »
Looking for any advice for things to put in a backpack, that would be useful, and used often when geocahing. Think everyday stuff we would use, or could use to help find or retrieve caches. We have the basics down:
    ~flashlight, pens, trinkets

any & all suggestions would be greatly appreciated   ;D

I usually carry a belt pack with a few "tools" that come in handy at times. They are:
-small screw driver
-tweezers (handy for nano caches)
-multi tool (gerber or leatherman brand)
-flashlight
-magnetic pick up tool that extends to a two ft lenght(auto stores carry them)
-electrical tape
-extra pen and pencil
-extra log sheets and plastic baggies for cache repairs if needed
-chewing gum
-spare batteries for gps
-small note pad for TB #'s for discovery
-swag for trades
-sig items
-camera

For longer hikes in the woods i carry a pack with the following also:
-compass(in case gps stops working), In remote areas a topo map,and wise to leave your trip plan with someone that can get you help if needed
-water and snacks
-cell phone
-emergency poncho
-personal First Aid Kit
-bandana and pesonal items( TP and medications, etc.)
-bug spray
-waterproof matches

You may find other items useful which you will discover as you do more various caches.

Hope this helps.

Happy Caching.

Additional items not on be1's list:
  • GPS receiver
  • Stamp for letterboxes (or for signing any log if that's your thing)
  • Walking stick
  • Hat (good for keeping sun off your scalp AND priceless for deflecting branches in the woods)
  • Technu (for removing poison ivy oil)
  • Sun block

And things that bullseye mentioned but that you should double-check every time:
  • Water -- and more water on long and/or hot days!
  • Batteries -- double-check that they're not old/used ones
  • Cell phone -- FULLY CHARGED!

Essentials that are to be with you always depends upon the priorities that you have. It means what are those thing that you need very often. They may be a cell phone, you car keys, your daily chore book etc!
