Must-See Caches in CNY
« on: January 09, 2011, 18:24:12 »
I poked around the site a little bit to see if I could find a list of must-see caches in CNY.  There are a few references to a couple caches; I had the thread looking for a cache to do for my milestone (#100).

So... what are some geocaches that are must-see here in CNY?  I'm looking for an awesome adventure, a unique hide, a great hike, a cache that comes up in conversation; "Hey, did you get XYZ cache yet?  Oh man, just wait until you see it!!"  I know that a few cachers got to check out "Let Me Stickley It To Ya" and that came up in several conversations at the Regift event.  That's the sorta stuff I'm looking for.  I'm starting to poke through the list sorted by GC.com's new FAVORITE feature too.

So, what do you say?

Excellent!  I'll take a look at the caches you listed here and add them to my list of to-dos.  I don't think I have any of them!

Any others?

For a fun adventure in better weather, check out Guardian of the Port GC6A49 in Oswego. This Virtual cache provides a nice walk you won't forget. Refer to the satellite map image to see the path. The parking lot is at the end of 6th Ave. I'd definitely do this one again, it would make for a great group hike!  ;D

I went to school in Oswego.  The four years I was there, I never walked out there.  This past July, I made an attempt with a couple friends of mine (jay_n_jenn) and their 3 month old daughter.  We made it most of the way out, but the waves were a little high for the last little bit of the trip to be safe with their daughter in the sling.  We plan to head back this year.

Bullseye's list is all good.  There are some nice hikes in the Ithaca area-check out the Ithaca is Gorge-ous challenge cache by Ithacadoodle - GC1NTJ6. If you do the Purple Cachin' Passion - GC1ZF68, the way it is intended, from inside the park, it's a beautiful hike, and the most beautiful ammo can will be waiting at the end. . .  :) You probably won't be able to get it for #100, but Kai Team's Parks of Onondaga Country Challenge GC19EYC was a great challenge since it brought me to a number of parks I'd never seen before. Have fun. .. and congrats when you get there!

Yes, the Onondaga County parks challenge was great because it was like a Counties or Delorme challenge without all the crazy driving. I did some head scratching as to some of the non-park destinations, though.

Sweet!!  Thanks for more recommendations.  I like the idea of the challenge caches as it'll get me out to a bunch of different spots.  I'll be adding these to my list of to-do's!  Thanks.
