Just stopping by to say hello and introduce myself. I don't really see a better section of the site for this sort of post, so hopefully I'm not transgressing too badly. I'm brand new to this board and pretty new to geocaching, thoroughly hooked already. Starting to get my wife and kids involved too. I hope to get to meet you all and put faces to names soon.

I've been known online as "smugpaul" for something like 15 years now, so it made sense to stick with that as a geocacher nickname too. For anyone curious, "smug"  doesn't refer to my attitude (I hope) but is from the Syracuse Macintosh Users Group with which I have long been actively involved.

Thanks,

smugpaul

Hello and welcome. This is my first post also so I figured I would welcome you and introduce myself. My cache handle is Mighty Nimbus. I have been on the hunt since '05. I took a break from caching but now I am back and hungry for more finds. Welcome!  Grin

Hey there just started geocaching after reading an article about it. Just moved to the Syracuse area and thought this would be good way to learn the area. Cool so far, although I dont seem to be to good at finding. Just using my Iphone with the geocache app.

Any advice or help would be great Smiley

Welcome, forney72! Did you see the article in the Post Standard, or somewhere else? Geocaching is an EXCELLENT way to learn an area. I grew up in the Syracuse area and have learned so much more about the places I have lived!

Your second cache was a sort of tricky hide, and you were good to have found it. You have found some LPCs (Lamp Post Caches) -- once you find one of those, you will easily find many caches in the area  Sad

You've got 9 finds so far, which is a good start. Once you get more, you will develop "geosense" and get a good idea of where to look. One nice method to finding caches is there "where would I hide it?" approach.

I encourage you to post here, get to know some people online, and keep an eye out for events. We just had a few events over the summer, but now the only ones scheduled are in Ithaca, Rochester, Binghamton, and farther out. They are a great chance to meet other geocachers, share stories, and learn more about geocaching.
