Game of Quests and Challenges!
« on: October 20, 2010, 11:05:49 »

Bluegirl and I have been working on a new game (web page) for the past 4 or 5 months.  It is a game of Quests & Challenges.  We need some help (ideas) for the categories for the Quests.

Here is a very quick explanation of the game (note, it is much more detailed and complex then what i have described here).

The idea behind the game is a User can create quests/challenges for others to complete. A user can create or complete challenges.

Each Quest has up to four levels (ranked from low to high in difficulty (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum).

A Quest can have n number of levels as long as it does not exceed 4 and as long as they are submiited in order by rank.

Example:

Title: Adirondack Firetower Challenge

Description: Climb all 24 firetowers in the Adirondack Park of Upstate New York. Each Level consists of 6 towers ranging in difficulty.

Level1: Bronze - Climb 6 towers

<6 firetowers listed here>

Level2: Silver - Climb 6 towers

<6 firetowers listed here>

Level3: Gold - Climb 6 towers

<6 firetowers listed here>

Level4: Platinum - Climb 6 towers

<6 firetowers listed here>

When a user creates a Quest, it is submitted to a moderator for review. As long as it follows the required guidlines of the site, the moderator will aprove it, else he/she will deny it.

Once a quest is approved, it is available and listed under the Quest categories to be actively completed by other users.

A user completes each level one at a time and submits the requirements back to the quest author for approval.
Once approved, the user receives the appropriate medal for completion of that level. Once all levels are completed, they get a completion for the entire quest

Quests are created and listed in 1 of 10 categories

This is where i need your help. Quests can be anything and the ideas are never ending....however, i am trying to create 10 category names by which all quests could be categorized under:

Example:  Outdoors & Recreation
                Arts & Leisure

Can you help me come up with 10?

Also....

I was wondering if any of the geocachers woul be willing to help me test the account (members) functionality of a this new website i am creating.

http://www.trymyquest.com

NOTE: Please read all of this post before continueing....

Please create a new membership from the login screen.  Everything is confidential, and you don't have to use your real password which goes with your email account if you don't want to. You can create a new password. (You may have to anyway, since the password security on this site requires a strong password. (I may change that in the future)....and all passwords are encrypted therefore even the admin (me) can't see them.

Play around with just this portion of the site (Membership creation). Try editing your profile afterwards. Try changing your password. etc.

Please do not try creating any QUESTS or LEVELS!  ALSO, do not try upgrading your membership to premium!

You may try any other feature you see. Searching for other users, etc.  deactivating, re-activating, etc.

Once you create a membership and play around and test as a free membership, send me an email to geolobos AT yahoo DOT com and tell me to upgrade you to premium.  I will manually upgrade you and you can then test the premium membership functionality.  Adding other users to your friends list, sending internal messages, etc.

NOTE: This site is not beautiful by any means. I have not been concentrating on design, layout, or even verbage in some cases. That will come after all the functionality (Guts) of the system is working properly.

Email me any bugs, suggestions, or feedback you might have to geolobos AT yahoo DOT com.  Put "TryMyQuest" in the subject line

Thanks for any help you can give

I guess the quest and levels functionality is stable enough...please disregard my previous message. Go ahead and play with the creating of quests and levels if you like.  Let me know which quest you need approved - (title and category) and I will log in as moderator and approve it or deny it <smile>

Looking for 5 or more people who can test some features for me?

http://www.trymyquest.com/

You should have at least two separate email accounts.

One for a user account, and one for a Moderator Account. This way, you can moderate the quests you create.

If you want, you can create two socket puppet accounts on yahoo, hotmail, or gmail to use.

Once you set up a free user account on trymyquest.com with one of the email accounts , email me with your additional email address for the moderator account and i will set one up for you. Also tell me which of the categories you would like to moderate. You can see the categories (drop down) on the create quest screen

email to geolobos AT yahoo DOT com

oh, almost forgot, tell me the login id of the free user account and i will upgrade you to premium user as well

I have changed the logo on the TryMyQuest website. If you haven't checked it out. please do. I am also in the stage of working on the Design and Layout phase and a new look is in the beginning stage.

http://www.trymyquest.com/

I still need people to test the site and play with the features and let me know.  I am gonna try and find some time to create some tutorials, but if you have any questions on how anything works, please fee free to ask on the forum.

I have come up with a mascot. A Kola Bear - named - "Quidnunk". You will soon see him on many of the pages in the future.

You can see additional images of Quidnunk here:

If you are interested in becoming a fulltime moderator for any of the categories, please let me know. This will provide you with full premium membership as long as you are a moderator, as well as other fringe benefits to be decided in the future. Need moderators now for testing and for go live and beyond.

I have been working on a new concept website -

TryMyQuest

It is in BETA phase, but its at a point now where users can actually create Quests and participate in Quests.

All the initial testing is completed. From here on out, all testing will be done by users actually creating real and useful quests, as well as users participating seriously in quests.  Quest submissions are moderated. Users are also subject to bans if the site is misused.

All New York Geocachers will receive a free Premium account if interested. If you interested in giving it a try, create an account and send geolobo an email through the system's "Send Message" functionality requesting an upgrade.

I want to thank Rusty-O-Junk for being one of the major contributors for not only testing, but feedback and suggestions as well. In addition, Rusty-O-Junk has created a number of quests.

I myself have created a couple of Quests and I am working on many more.

Lets see what you can come up with for a Quest or adventure for others to participate in.

I am constantly trying to make the site as user friendly as possible. If you have any questions / feedback, or find any errors, please be sure to contact me via email at geolobos @ yahoo dot com. Or, send an email through the TryMyQuest system.

Thanks

TryMyQuest is a site where you are the Creator and the Participator!  The Skies the limit. Create a Quest or Challenge for others to complete. Even complete it yourself. Earn the Coveted Bronze, Gold, Silver, and Platinum medals for completed quests.  Create quests and become preferred members.

BTW, there are some geocaching related quests also....<smile>

Congratulations to Rusty-O-Junk for being the first quest creator and participator to earn the coveted Blue Ribbon on his profile for creating 10 Quests! - Im almost there TOM!
