Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: Novac on November 06, 2009, 10:29:41 I did a Polar Bear about 5 years ago in Buffalo.
This one is big. I guess they had 8,000+ last year. Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: dnnsgps on November 06, 2009, 20:38:52 I'll come to watch!! ;D
Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: WeputtSC on November 08, 2009, 21:05:57 The good thing is you've done it before, so you know what to expect. I think you should go for it! Yeah, easy for me to say, lately I've been a procrastinator just getting out from under the warm covers in the morning. How far in do you have to get? Can you just get your legs wet, or do you have to dip in up to your neck? :o
Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: Novac on November 09, 2009, 09:26:29 Yes, you can go in just a little bit. Personally, I prefer to submerge my head just to make it "official". If you've never done it before, there's something important to know: Once you go in over your waist (and especially if you dive under the water), the cold collapses all that nice warm air inside your lungs and promptly takes your breath away completely. That was a bit of a surprise as I knew it'd be cold, but I didn't know I'd be breathless and cold when underwater.
Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: Novac on November 09, 2009, 11:52:45 Of course, you could all join me and we could put together a Geocachers group. :D

Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: Novac on November 10, 2009, 21:56:06 I considered it. There are some hurdles to getting permission for events where donations are encouraged.
Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: LCSM on November 28, 2009, 04:10:47 [color=purpleHhaving rushed to the hospital because S got hypothermia jumping into cold water in August up in Maine, our team will not be jumping in, sorry. M says it worked out well because, a) we got the phone call while geocaching together on a mountain so we had to leave, and b) he got to go to the ER.[/color]
Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: WeputtSC on December 07, 2009, 21:07:29 Novac, did you make it to the plunge? The weather wasn't bad Saturday.
Title: Re: Polar Bear Plunge Post by: Novac on December 08, 2009, 03:41:21 Nope, I completely missed out on it. Not only did I not prepare, I didn't even realize it was coming up...until I saw it on the news. :-[
