I did a Polar Bear about 5 years ago in Buffalo.

This one is big. I guess they had 8,000+ last year.

The good thing is you've done it before, so you know what to expect. I think you should go for it! Yeah, easy for me to say, lately I've been a procrastinator just getting out from under the warm covers in the morning. How far in do you have to get? Can you just get your legs wet, or do you have to dip in up to your neck?  :o

Yes, you can go in just a little bit. Personally, I prefer to submerge my head just to make it "official". If you've never done it before, there's something important to know: Once you go in over your waist (and especially if you dive under the water), the cold collapses all that nice warm air inside your lungs and promptly takes your breath away completely. That was a bit of a surprise as I knew it'd be cold, but I didn't know I'd be breathless and cold when underwater.

Is this the first Polar Bear Plunge Event published on GC.com.   Everyone in attendance must participate in the plunge in order to receive your smily.    ;D

I considered it. There are some hurdles to getting permission for events where donations are encouraged.

[color=purpleHhaving rushed to the hospital because S got hypothermia jumping into cold water in August up in Maine, our team will not be jumping in, sorry. M says it worked out well because, a) we got the phone call while geocaching together on a mountain so we had to leave, and b) he got to go to the ER.[/color]

Nope, I completely missed out on it. Not only did I not prepare, I didn't even realize it was coming up...until I saw it on the news.  :-[
